Fitness Camp Fun Starts Tomorrow!

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Hey Las Vegas!  You guys ready to start another fun filled fitness camp with your, yeah, your favorite personal trainer?  I know I am excited about it.  If you told me you are signing up for camp, and you haven’t yet, shame on you.  It happens every time i run these fitness camps.  25 people will say, “Tony, I can’t wait to do your next fitness camp!”  and those same 25 people are the ones I will see six weeks later, five or ten pounds fatter, and I’ll see them doing their sweet treadmill workout.  Then they’ll say, “Oh yeah, I really meant to join up.  Just had too much stuff going on, wasn’t working with my schedule, my cat died, I lost my job, I heard it’s hard, and i don’t want to be the least in shape person there.”  OH MY GOD!  I think the real reason I have a problem with these people, is not because they aren’t doing my fitness camp, but because they are lying to themselves.  They don’t want to put in the work, and they just are scared.  The treadmill is comfortable to them.  They think that’s plenty of exercise.  They think  if people see them at they gym, they are doing their job.  You don’t make progress by doing the same thing over and over again.  If that was the case,  90% of the people in gyms would look like greek gods, while the 10% who know what they are doing, would look like slobs.  My point here is this.  If you don’t try new things, why would your body change?  Come to fitness camp.  And if you only take one thing away from it, that’ll be something you can try, when that treadmill seems just a bit boring one of those days.

Las Vegas Month Long Workout

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Hey Las Vegas! And everyone else. Just wanted to update you on what I am going to be doing for my exercise program for the next month. I am trying to gain strength and size right now. I want to see if I can gain ten pounds of muscle. For this month, I don’t get to use any weight. No dumbells, no machines. The only exercises I can do, I can’t load myself with anything other than myself, or partner resistance. I am falling in love with this strap system called the TRX. No, it’s not a sex swing you pervs, anyway, you can see tons of videos on it on youtube. But just thought I’d update you, and let you know what I’ve been doing. Hope you are all well. I’ll let you know how this goes.

Don’t Have a Las Vegas Gym Membership? Who Cares?

Monday, January 25th, 2010

There are tons of gyms in Las Vegas.  Some offer personal training.  Some have pools.  Some have basketball courts.  Most offer cardio machines and exercise equipment.  Some are just for fighting.  The list goes on and on.  But what if you don’t have the money for a gym membership?  Or you don’t want to be hit on by every dude in the place.  Or you haven’t paid your monthly dues in 3 years and you owe Las Vegas Athletic Club $484 and they won’t let you work out there until it’s paid off.  Whatever.  You don’t need a gym membership to get all jacked up, or just get more muscle tone.  The other day, I worked out.  Shocker I know.  But I took this thing, called a TRX, and did my whole workout on it.  It basically is a rope with two handles, but the company makes it look pretty.  Anyway, i haven’t had a workout like that in a while.  Felt like it taxed my whole body.  I was doing all these creative exercises with just my bodyweight, and it was killin me.  The actual system costs about 150 bucks, but you’d never actually have to go to the gym ever again with this thing.  My point is, you don’t have to have all these crazy machines the gym has to get in shape.  Most people use it as an excuse to not work out.  My gym doesn’t have this so I don’t go, or whatever.  Come on dude.  Get with it.  If you have a floor, and a door, you can workout.  That’s really all you need.  I’ve been in a pissy mood lately because so many people come up with so many excuses to not work out, but then, they complain about being out of shape.  You can really work out anywhere, any time.  You don’t need a gym.  So,  meet me at the park for fitness camp in a week.  You’ll see what I’m talking about:)

Personal Training- Why Would You Be Scared?

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

So I am at the Las Vegas Women’s Fair today, and I have my personal trainer booth.  This was a great opportunity to be part of a huge social gathering, bringing different areas of life into one convention center.  Massage Therapy, Hair Care, Back Specialists, Nightclubs, Party Girls, and on and on.  Our booth was giving away 12 free personal training sessions, to get you the body you deserve.  most people were signing up to enter to win, but some people, who definitely needed the workout, were saying that they weren’t interested, or it was too tough.  My question is this.  How do they know the work out will be too tough.  I wish sometimes people would just admit what is really going on. ”No thanks.  I’m lazy, and I don’t think I would want to exercise, because it would involve work, and I just am not interested in that.”  I wish people would say that.  We had a drawing for FREE TRAINING.  They didn’t have to pay.  All that was needed was an email address, and they had a chance to regain their fitness.  We did have a lot of interest, but I was more puzzled by the people who weren’t interested, because, it almost tells me you don’t really value your life.  If someone is offering something for free, to better your quality of life, wouldn’t you take it?  I don’t know, maybe that’s just me, but if someone told me that i could feel better about myself, have fun with exercise, live longer, learn about nutrition, have more knowledge about my health, and maybe get a six pack, all for free, I think i might be signing up for that.  Anyway.  All in all women’s fair was a great experience.  Met some great people, some interesting products, and I liked the fact I was the only personal trainer there.  We were right across from Jazzercise, so…… That was interesting.  Anyway, if someone offers you free fitness, take them up on it.  Have a great night.

Las Vegas Getting Back On The Fitness Track

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

Living here in Las Vegas, there is plenty to do.  I can go see a show, I can go to the mountains, I can gamble, I can be entertained by the college athletics, I can go bowling, I can go to concerts, events, parties and lots more.  But the thing I like to do, is work out.  Or go to the gym.  I haven’t done it in a few weeks though. I have been studying to become a corrective exercise specialist, so its been taking up a lot of my time, but now that that’s over (i killed it), i can move on, and get back to my fitness.  I’m not saying I didn’t work out for a few weeks, I did a lot of my at home workouts, and i paid attention to my nutrition.  But now, I will have a little bit more time on my hands, and I would love to work on my goals.  I am trying to gain a few pounds of muscle here and there, and every minute in the gym counts.  It was killing me to not go, but i knew studying, for the moment, was more important.  So what i am trying to say, is that although working out and going to the gym is one of my main priorities, sometimes things come up that are bigger priorities.  This was the case lately.  Now, I’m back in action, ready to take on the weights, learn to salsa, and get fit again:)  Ha.  Pool season is coming up, and right now, I wouldn’t take off my shirt.  Night y’all.

Competition in Fitness

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Hey, Las Vegas. Wake up! It’s your friendly, smiley personal trainer, Tony. Wanted to talk about competition. Does it drive you to workout harder? Are you looking at the person next to you, trying to do better than them? What exactly drives you to exercise? For me, seeing a person that has a better six pack than me, makes me step it up. So what is it that makes you step it up? Today is short, but I just want to ask you this question. Train hard, keep your nutrition, and get that six pack.

Working Out, and Working Out for Results.

Friday, January 8th, 2010

Your local Las Vegas Personal Trainer at your service here.  Ever wonder why you go to the gym, work out, drink your protein shake, go out to the club for 7 hours, sleep, drunk for 5, then go to work hung over and not get that six pack you want before summer?  Well, I don’t.  Because I know why you aren’t getting that six pack.  You think you are eating right, doing the right things, but most likely, you aren’t.  Think about it.   Are you leaving the gym, drenched in sweat from your weight workout?  Are you getting a variety of whole, nutritious, colorful foods?  Do you get enough sleep?  Are you limiting your alcohol intake?  Most likely, if you aren’t seeing results, most of these questions will be answered with a word you tell little kids when they are trying to eat crayons.  NO.  Let’s talk about that first question.  Do your weight training sessions leave you tired, sweaty and dunzo?  If not, you probably aren’t doing all that much to get those precious muscles you want, or that pretty tone that all the ladies are looking for.  I see tons of people go into the gym, spend an hour or two in there, and come out looking like they just got done watching a movie.  The gym is where it all happens.  You work on your fitness, and try to do better each and every time out.  If you do the same old thing, that isn’t challenging, why do you think you’d get results from that?  If I ran into a brick wall, 100 times in a row, and didn’t run through it, what would make me think that the 101st time, I would actually make it through?  The answer is not genius.  Anyway.  My point is, you have to actively challenge yourself in the gym, or you aren’t going anywhere.  You won’t be in any better shape, you won’t see a six pack, if you do the same old exercises, the same old way, with the same old weight.  You have to do things that you think you might not be able to do.  It’s the only way to get better.  Practice your deficiencies, and reap the results.

My New Years Fitness Plans

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

I am a personal trainer in Las Vegas. I know some of you people think i shouldn’t have any goals myself when it comes to fitness, but I do. I like to exercise, and I love the benefits of exercise just as much as the next gym goer. I also have my own goals, and things I’d like to accomplish. They don’t necessarily coincide with New Years, or my birthday or whatever, but they are things i would like to accomplish.
As far as physical goals for myself, I’d like to gain about 10 pounds. Now, I’ve been saying this for years, and i know where my problem lies. I need to think more about my nutrition, as does everyone else usually. In my case, since i want to add good quality muscle, I can’t eat just any garbage. I have to have a calorie surplus, but it can’t be crap calories. So what i have to do, is basically stuff my face with good quality foods. It’s going to take a while, but I think i can do it.
My other main goal, is to dunk off two feet with two hands. I’ve never done it, but with everything I’ve learned over the years, I know i have enough physical capability to get this thing done! My health, and knowledge of nutrition and exercise and performance should help me reach these goals. Now it’s a matter of if I have the motivation to get them done. Hopefully I’ll hear about your goals and your motivation. Send me an email, I’d like to listen.
