Getting Rid Of Belly Fat-

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

I was on my way back to Las Vegas from LA for the TRX certification on Sunday.  I stopped at a 7 Eleven to get some gas, and a guy at another pump sees my personal training logo on the back of my car.  Of course he decides to strike up a conversation, asks me how much I charge, gasps when i tell him, you know, the usual.  Then he goes on and asks me one question I will possibly never understand why people ask.  He says, “How do I get rid of this?”, and then rubs his stomach.  Now, I am a pretty good judge when it comes to people and their workout routines, and I could tell he didn’t have much of one.  So, if that is the case, why is he asking me this question.  But I go ahead and ask him a few things back.  One, “What are you doing currently to help you get rid of that?”  Two, “What are you eating?”  Both questions get answered with something I expect.  The first one he says he tries to work out, but doesn’t have time to work out all the time, and the second one, he says it’s hard to eat healthy, and takes too long.  Well, of course he’s got a belly.  I don’t call these jusifiable reasons, they are definitely excuses.  The guy KNOWS what to do, just isn’t doing them.  He is putting these crutches out there so he can stand on them when he asks himself why he isn’t in shape.  He doesn’t have broken legs, so why use the crutches?  He doesn’t want to come to the conclusion that the reason he hasn’t lost his belly fat is because of himself.  This is the main point I am trying to make.  Most people know the right things to do, they just don’t do them, because it’s easier not to, or it tastes better to do the wrong things.  I have a feeling, if I ask 10 people which is a better choice, to work out for only 10 minutes a day, or to not work out at all, I am pretty sure 10 of those people would choose working out 10 minutes a day.  Also, if I asked the same people, which is a healthier option, cottage cheese, or macaroni and cheese, I bet 9 of those people say cottage cheese.  The 10th person, would probably just say macaroni and cheese to be a smart ass.  Anyway.  This is my point.  EVERYONE has a general idea of what are the right directions to go.  No one needs a personal trainer for that.  So go in those right directions to start, give it some time, a few months, and see where it takes you.  I bet you lose 5 pounds without even thinking.

10 Minute Home Workout-Las Vegas Personal Training

Saturday, August 21st, 2010

Yo. Let’s pretend it’s 107 degrees outside and you can’t work out there. Oh wait, it is in Las Vegas. Ok. Let’s say it’s too hot and you don’t want to leave your ac in your house to go to the gym. Great. I have a short workout routine you can do in your living room. Ok. First, pushups. Do as many as you can in a minute. One minute. That’s it. Do it now. How many did you do? 10? 25? 40? Are you tired? Ok. Next. Do a plank. If you don’t know what this is, get back into that pushup position, but rest your elbows on the ground. Now squeeze your bum together, and hold for 10 seconds. Do this, relax for a few seconds, and do it again. Let’s repeat that 4 times. Third, we’ll move to the couch. This will seem childish. But jump from the floor to the couch. If you have kids, don’t let them see this, unles you don’t care that they are jumping on your couch. If that’s a little too extreme for you, you can go to your staircase, and repeatedly step up and down two steps. Do that for one minute. Almost home now. Jumping Jacks. Another minute. And those are your exercises. You can do this one time around, two times, maybe 3, try it once. It literally takes ten minutes, and you can do it all while watching True Blood.

The Fitness Life, it’s a Good One.

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

Hey, I am in Las Vegas today, but not for long.  The next two weeks are going to be filled with fun and adventure for me!  Sunday i am heading to California, where a Six Flags trip is in order, and then on Tuesday, I will be heading down to Florida to develop a pre-season training program for my friend, Coach David Lane, and his Chipola College women’s basketball team.  I will say this.  The weather down in that part of Florida, is nothing to brag about.  Sorry Dave.  I went there last year, and felt the need to shower as soon as I stepped outside.  I do have fun showing athletes how to work out though.  He has a very talented team, and I feel honored to have a part in their success.

After the Florida trip, I will be going BACK to California, but this time to do something that i have been waiting a year to do.  I will be going to Santa Monica, to become officially TRX certified.  Ever since I put my hands on a TRX, it’s what I’ve wanted to do.  I read about them, watch videos, own my own dvd library on TRX workouts, watch seminars, you name it.  Only thing I don’t want to happen is to have this workshop teach me nothing.  But with literally 8 hours of just TRX, I am sure I will learn plenty new.

Well, that would be the extent of my trips in August, as it has been a VERY busy month for me.  We have another huge project in the works, that will be coming out, hopefully before the end of the year.  I don’t want to say P90X look out, but hey,  look out:)  Alright guys.  That’s it for today.  Hope your training is going well, and I hope to see you guys in Fitness Camp sometime soon!

Fitness Experience- Mine at the Conference

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

It’s good to be back in Las Vegas after going to a personal training conference in LA.  Boy did I learn A LOT!  I had an amazing experience listening to some of the top minds and coaches in the NATION in the fitness field.  There were top personal trainers, top marketing people, and exercise equipment manufacturers.  This conference covered everything that I love.  I’m just going to share with you some small parts of my experience, the seminars i went to and some interesting happenings.

Basically what I did at the conference was be in school for 3 days straight.  From 7 in the morning until 6 at night, we were in either workouts, seminars, or workshops, that had to do with various aspects of the health and fitness world.  Some had to do with group exercise, some with personal training, and some with the management of your business.  For the sake of you guys and not going into boredom, I am going to stick with the ones I attended that had to do with exercise and personal training.

Bright and Early at 8:10 am, I went to a workshop that had to do only with kettlebells.  If you don’t know what these are, they basically look like an iron ball with a handle at the top.  Well, that IS what they are, but anyway.  This class basically taught me the fundamentals of kettlebell training, how you can do total workouts with them, and what the benefits of them are.  You can use these as an alternative to dumbells but also they are more versatile because of the form of the kettlebell.  Needless to say, I came back to Las Vegas with an extra 45 pound ball.  That’s heavy.

Another workout /workshop I went to, was at 7 am.  yeah.. that’s NOT the most fun thing in the world, but it’s all worth it when you are kind of a fitness nerd like myself.  This was called MELT.  It basically was 45 minutes of learning how to release tight muscles in the foot, thigh, and lower back.  We used a foam roller, and two different densities of little bouncy balls.  You can do this at home with a tennis ball and pvc pipe, but the lady uses her own tools so you buy them and make her money:)  It was a good class, and left me loose for what was coming next.

After the MELT class, I did this workout called 4 Top Guns.  This was the class I was looking forward to the most, and it did NOT disappoint me.  There were 4 top trainers, two of which are my two favorite, and they took you through an hour and fifty minute workout.  I don’t know if I have ever sweat this much in my life.  There were four different stations, one for each trainer, and each station had a few sub-stations.  Within the stations there were a few different exercises, and sequences that you had to run through.  There was a TRX station, and if you are one of my clients, you KNOW how much I love the TRX.  I got to spend 20 minutes nonstop doing different exercises on the TRX with Fraser Quelch(one of my favorites).  He got me sweating a little, and that was just in the first 20 minutes.  Then it was off to do some routines on the battling ropes, some agility drills, power bands, and bosu balls.  After the class, I met up with Emily who instantly laughed when she saw me, because I was DRENCHED in sweat.

The last class I will talk about is a functional seminar I took. It was called Motion Drivers-What Turns YOU On?  Kinky, I know.  This class was showing us how the body uses more muscles that the average person thinks, when doing daily activity, and if you can mimic daily activity movement in your exercise routine, you will be much better off.  The presenter brought up a great point by saying functional exercise is the way to go.  Athletes use exercises like these.  And he brought up the example of a bodybuilder.  The way bodybuilders train is SOLELY for vanity.  There is no relay to normal activity when you train like a bodybuilder.  Have you ever seen a bodybuilder try to play sports?  It’s actually pretty comical.  Anyway.  I had fun in this guys presentation because he kind of reinforced the way I think.

Well, that is a little taste of what i went through this weekend.  In total, I took 9 classes/workshops/seminars/workouts, and I enjoyed every one of them.  This is something I will go to again, every year.  I think there is never an end to learning, and everyone can benefit from better educating themselves.  I am going to take some of the new tips I learned, and implement them into my own training.  Future clients, BEWARE!

Las Vegas Personal Training- A Big Week In Fitness

Sunday, August 1st, 2010

My Las Vegas Personal Training will have to take a break this week, as I will be out of town.  Oh Yeah.  Happy August to all you fitness freaks out there!  You know what?  Happy August to all you who aren’t fitness freaks too!  I am really excited for this week, as it is a HUGE one for me.  In a few days, I will be off to Los Angeles with that one personal trainer, Emily Bussey, and we will be attending a very, very large fitness convention.  It’s called the IDEA World Fitness Convention.  Basically what happens at the convention is a lot like school.  For 10 hours a day, we are in random classes, seminars and workouts.  Now, this doesn’t sound like much fun to the average human being, but for me, it’s heaven.  I am a self proclaimed fitness nerd.  I’ll admit it, and I’m not ashamed of it.  At least it’s not like I’m obsessed with Harry Potter, or Twilight, or Jason Derulo or something.  I am obsessed with something that actually matters, and isn’t make believe.  Anyway, just wanted to let you know some of the things I will be learning at the conference.  Here are the titles of some of the classes/seminars I will be attending.

Partner Play: Game On!

Introduction to Kettlebell Training for Fitness Professionals

Four Top Guns, Four Training Zones-Athletic Training That Brings It!

3-D Matrix Performance Series: Advanced Balance and Jump Training

TRX® Corrective Exercise

Fitness Podcasting

Motion Drivers :: What Turns YOU On?

And that isn’t half of my classes.  Emily and I will be coming back from this convention with tons of new knowledge and exercises to challenge all of you.  Hopefully at the end of this week, I will learn how to record and put on a weekly fitness podcast just talking about the emails I receive with questions regarding working out and fat loss.  This is something I have been waiting all year for, so I don’t think it will disappoint.  We’ll be back Sunday with some new fitness tips for you all to try!
