Results in 5 days? Las Vegas Personal Trainer

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

Let’s say you have a photo shoot in Las Vegas in 5 days.  But, you don’t think you are photo shoot ready.  What are some of the things you can do?  You can starve yourself, which usually isn’t very painless.  You can take water pills, which also isn’t healthy.  And you could do sauna, garbage bag suit thing, and cardio for 5 hours a day.  None of which sounds fun.  I have a simple solution, which in itself, plays with your emotions, and your discipline, but works.  It literally is ONE change, that can visibly affect your body in as little as 5 days.  Here it is.

Every time you eat, have a source of protein, and a vegetable.  Most of us humans don’t do this.  So let’s say everyone knows the chicken and broccoli, but what about Tuna and asparagus?  Or Salmon and green beans?  How about turkey breast and spinach.  You could even do this with supplements.  Whey protein shake and carrots.  Even a recovery shake and celery.  I’m not saying to not have other sources of food, but keep them minimal.  If a 5 day fix is what you really want, which in my opinion, shouldn’t have to happen in the first place, this is how you do it without killing yourself.  don’t do the dumb cleanses, or not eating, or water pills.  Be smart about it.

On a side note, I would like to say thank you to Jessica Otero, from Infinite Labs, for hooking me up with some of their product.  I’m excited to try out this Juggernaut stuff!

Fitness Fighters. It’s a RUMBLE!

Saturday, December 11th, 2010

tclogo with dot com1 300x213 Fitness Fighters. Its a RUMBLE!I hate cardio.  Always have.  Always will probably.  I do it sometimes because I feel like my fitness isn’t complete without having a big lung capacity too.  Anyway.  When it comes to burning fat, I think you can accomplish that in a minimal amount of time, as long as you work hard.  A girl on facebook did NOT agree with me.  I would like to tell you about an “argument” I had with a certain person on facebook who will remain nameless.  She was a figure competitor, and basically said that the ONLY way you can burn fat is to do between 30-60 minutes of cardio.  I think this, in itself, is silly.  That’s like saying the only way to get from Chicago to Los Angeles is by train.  There are literally hundreds of ways to burn body fat.  I won’t go into them, and will stick with my ammo for the argument of 20 minutes of cardio.  I asked if I only did 20 minutes of cardio, would I burn any fat. She said no.  She didn’t ask how hard I was working, or if I was doing intervals or what exactly my cardio was, she just basically told me if that’s all I’m doing, I might as well go back to bed.  How does that make sense?  She also said it has to be continuous for at least 30 minutes.  None of it made sense.  Take a track and field sprinter who is all muscle.  They NEVER really do 30 minutes of continuous cardio, yet, remain at about 6-10% bodyfat.  Anyway.  I won’t go into all the details, but my point is this.  You can burn fat, in a minimal amount of time.  As long as the intensity is high, you can usually burn MORE fat than if you did moderate intensity cardio for 30 minutes.  Think about it this way.  If you jog 3 miles in 40 minutes, and I do that same 3 miles in 20 minutes, who got a better workout?  (Let’s say we are on par physically.)  I did.  And I will burn more fat, because my intensity was higher, and I was running faster.  So next time your trainer, or bodybuilding friend, or local fitness competitor says you NEED to do at least 30 minutes of cardio, remember this article.

Want a Quick Way to Lose Weight?

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

OK.  I normally don’t do random quick information.  I usually have some underlying agenda, that is the lesson to be learned through my blog.  Today, I am just going to tell you how to lose weight, and get ripped up in a hurry.  This really isn’t rocket science, or even brain surgery.  Which one would you rather try to do without having any knowledge of either?  I think I would try rocket science, but I would stay FAR, FAR away when those rockets went off if I had anything to do with them.  Anyway.  On to how to get you turned into a lean, mean, fitness machine.

Really, the secret to this whole thing is three words.  Fruits and Vegetables.  That’s it.  I know this works for me, and unless you have some sort of  “thyroid condition“, it will work for you.  If you decide to base your diet on fruits and vegetables, weight will come off… period.  When I need to get lean, what I do is have a goal in mind, for how many fruits and vegetable servings I take in a day.  Most people, I will bet you, don’t even get a total of four, so this is probably a good number for you to start with.  Don’t worry about your protein content, or your carbs and fats.  Just try to get 4 servings of fruits and vegetables a day.  Try to even them out too.  If you are already doing this, try for 6.  If you are already doing THAT, try for 8, and so on.  If you are really killing it, i dare you to try to get 5 servings of veggies, and 5 of fruit, a day.  Still eat whatever else you normally would like to, but fill yourself with the fruits and vegetables first.  Get your protein shakes, or chicken and rice as well, but make the fruits and vegetables first and foremost.  Give this a few weeks.  When I started implementing this diet technique, I lost about 10 pounds in four weeks.  I didn’t really change anything else to be honest.  My workouts were the same, and I didn’t really do any extra cardio.  This works.  You don’t really need to know why, but it does help curb eating things that will keep weight on you, or even add to your weight.  Try it out, give it a few weeks, and if you don’t start getting leaner, you can come and blow up my rocket.

Fitness in The Airport

Sunday, July 11th, 2010

As I am in Chicago’s Midway airport, I see a lot of people who should be my personal training clients. I also saw a guy who is a high level pro bodybuilder. So everyone has to travel right? But what I wanted to say, was if you want some good exercise, just fly standby on a busy day. I have probably walked 10 miles today in this freakin airport. It’s my own fault, but I look at it like this. Every time I don’t make a flight, they move you to the gate of the next flight. As I am writing this, I have had to move gates four times already. And none of them have been consecutively close to another one. This is a lot of walking. Add the fact that I have taken my laptop, TRX, and a couple big bottles of water along with me, and this is a slight workout! Although I REALLY want to start doing pushups and bench jumps off these uncomfortable chairs, I will take this walking thing as my fitness for the day. So next time you get annoyed with the standby stuff, just realize that as long as you are up and moving, you are basically working out!

Fitness- Not Just About Lifting Weights

Friday, May 28th, 2010

We are back from Iowa.  We had a great time doing the show, American Storm while we were there, and we also had one heck of a workout while we were there too.  I would like to share this story.  We decided, my brother and I, that we could beat the rest of the crew of American Storm while we were in Iowa, at a game of basketball.  2 on 5.  Yes, that’s right.  2 guys against 5 guys.  Now, although this seems like a huge mismatch, it turns out, it was.  But not the way you might think.  The short story of it all, is that Terry(my brother), and I, literally SPANKED the rest of the cast.  They also had our stage manager, and our sound and lights man at their disposal for substitutions.  Playing to 25 by 1′s and 2′s, we beat them 25-5.  The math doesn’t make any sense whatsoever. I know.  But here’s the thing.  The rest of the guys in the show, have great bodies, they look amazing, and go to the gym.  They do their lifts and their cardio.  Their workouts are good, but they lack one thing.  Diversity.  All these guys know is lifting weights.  Now, I’m not trying to knock them, but this was no competition.  No one on the other team had any basketball experience.  Nor did they know how to move laterally, or transversely.  They didn’t know how to change direction.  The thing about this is, you need to be able to do that in life.  It’s that simple.  Now, you won’t necessarily have to guard a former college athlete in the sport that they played, but what about if you go on a snowboarding trip.  You need to know how to move side to side, and twist and turn when necessary, or else it’s going to be a pretty unexciting trip.  Or lets say you are playing with your brothers kid.  Running and chasing them around.  That kid is going to be all over the place.  Wouldn’t you like to be able to keep up with them?  The point I am trying to make here, is that weights and cardio and the traditional workout are great for “bodybuilding“, but for daily life “fitness“, they don’t account for much.  So diversify your workouts.  Learn to do something new.  Take up a sport, or lessons of some sort, or just play like a kid.  You’ll be more competitive when you challenge two former college basketball players to a game they love.  If you are interested in watching the mayhem, I posted it on youtube.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubDXLFH6jLs
