Ok. So I have a youtube video up on my page about the Shake Weight. Now, I guess I wasn’t totally clear on my views on this piece of “exercise equipment”. I guess some could watch this video, and think, “hey, this guy is in shape, this dumbell thing is making him talk funny, and he’s sweating. So it must be effective right?” That was not my intention at all. The whole video, was a sarcastic take on all the exercise gimmicks you see on tv. This is the problem with society and the way companies dupe people into buying their products. Now I don’t doubt that the shake weight serves some purpose in the fitness world. Actually, using it, I got a pretty good pump in my muscles. But using solely this device, you wouldn’t get very far in your weight loss or other fitness goals for that matter. You see the people on the commercials, all buff, and lean and stuff, but the harsh reality is that for those people, the first time they try that product is probably the day of shooting that commercial. These products can serve useful in CONJUNCTION with other exercise routines. If you used the shake weight, and that brazillian butt thing, and p90x, then maybe, you would have something. But what I was trying to get across is that it’s ludicrous to think that you could actually do JUST that, and have some crazy ripped body. Sorry for the confusion everybody. If you want to check out the video, just go here.

The Shake Weight. Gets You in Shape?
Sunday, September 5th, 2010A New Fitness Camp- Personal Training Las Vegas
Saturday, September 4th, 2010I have decided the Silverado Ranch area of Las Vegas needs a new kind of fitness camp. In the coming weeks, I am going to be using my TRX instructor certification to develop a TRX fitness camp. What we are going to be doing is integrating TRX workouts with traditional boot camp style workouts. If you guys don’t already know, I am in love with the TRX suspension trainer, and a majority of my own workouts occur solely on them. now, I know you all may have seen the shake weight testimonial of mine, but this is actually serious. I believe in all the benefits of the TRX, and ANYONE can do the workouts. We can modify for all fitness levels, and also change the workouts for strength, fat loss, cardio, power, and any other cool word you can think of. We’ll be starting the classes by the end of September, but these ones will be limited to somewhere around 10 to 15 a class. We’ll keep you posted on class times and start dates, but give me a holler if you are interested so I know how to prepare.
10 Minute Home Workout-Las Vegas Personal Training
Saturday, August 21st, 2010Yo. Let’s pretend it’s 107 degrees outside and you can’t work out there. Oh wait, it is in Las Vegas. Ok. Let’s say it’s too hot and you don’t want to leave your ac in your house to go to the gym. Great. I have a short workout routine you can do in your living room. Ok. First, pushups. Do as many as you can in a minute. One minute. That’s it. Do it now. How many did you do? 10? 25? 40? Are you tired? Ok. Next. Do a plank. If you don’t know what this is, get back into that pushup position, but rest your elbows on the ground. Now squeeze your bum together, and hold for 10 seconds. Do this, relax for a few seconds, and do it again. Let’s repeat that 4 times. Third, we’ll move to the couch. This will seem childish. But jump from the floor to the couch. If you have kids, don’t let them see this, unles you don’t care that they are jumping on your couch. If that’s a little too extreme for you, you can go to your staircase, and repeatedly step up and down two steps. Do that for one minute. Almost home now. Jumping Jacks. Another minute. And those are your exercises. You can do this one time around, two times, maybe 3, try it once. It literally takes ten minutes, and you can do it all while watching True Blood.
The Fitness Life, it’s a Good One.
Thursday, August 19th, 2010Hey, I am in Las Vegas today, but not for long. The next two weeks are going to be filled with fun and adventure for me! Sunday i am heading to California, where a Six Flags trip is in order, and then on Tuesday, I will be heading down to Florida to develop a pre-season training program for my friend, Coach David Lane, and his Chipola College women’s basketball team. I will say this. The weather down in that part of Florida, is nothing to brag about. Sorry Dave. I went there last year, and felt the need to shower as soon as I stepped outside. I do have fun showing athletes how to work out though. He has a very talented team, and I feel honored to have a part in their success.
After the Florida trip, I will be going BACK to California, but this time to do something that i have been waiting a year to do. I will be going to Santa Monica, to become officially TRX certified. Ever since I put my hands on a TRX, it’s what I’ve wanted to do. I read about them, watch videos, own my own dvd library on TRX workouts, watch seminars, you name it. Only thing I don’t want to happen is to have this workshop teach me nothing. But with literally 8 hours of just TRX, I am sure I will learn plenty new.
Well, that would be the extent of my trips in August, as it has been a VERY busy month for me. We have another huge project in the works, that will be coming out, hopefully before the end of the year. I don’t want to say P90X look out, but hey, look out:) Alright guys. That’s it for today. Hope your training is going well, and I hope to see you guys in Fitness Camp sometime soon!
Fitness Experience- Mine at the Conference
Thursday, August 12th, 2010It’s good to be back in Las Vegas after going to a personal training conference in LA. Boy did I learn A LOT! I had an amazing experience listening to some of the top minds and coaches in the NATION in the fitness field. There were top personal trainers, top marketing people, and exercise equipment manufacturers. This conference covered everything that I love. I’m just going to share with you some small parts of my experience, the seminars i went to and some interesting happenings.
Basically what I did at the conference was be in school for 3 days straight. From 7 in the morning until 6 at night, we were in either workouts, seminars, or workshops, that had to do with various aspects of the health and fitness world. Some had to do with group exercise, some with personal training, and some with the management of your business. For the sake of you guys and not going into boredom, I am going to stick with the ones I attended that had to do with exercise and personal training.
Bright and Early at 8:10 am, I went to a workshop that had to do only with kettlebells. If you don’t know what these are, they basically look like an iron ball with a handle at the top. Well, that IS what they are, but anyway. This class basically taught me the fundamentals of kettlebell training, how you can do total workouts with them, and what the benefits of them are. You can use these as an alternative to dumbells but also they are more versatile because of the form of the kettlebell. Needless to say, I came back to Las Vegas with an extra 45 pound ball. That’s heavy.
Another workout /workshop I went to, was at 7 am. yeah.. that’s NOT the most fun thing in the world, but it’s all worth it when you are kind of a fitness nerd like myself. This was called MELT. It basically was 45 minutes of learning how to release tight muscles in the foot, thigh, and lower back. We used a foam roller, and two different densities of little bouncy balls. You can do this at home with a tennis ball and pvc pipe, but the lady uses her own tools so you buy them and make her money:) It was a good class, and left me loose for what was coming next.
After the MELT class, I did this workout called 4 Top Guns. This was the class I was looking forward to the most, and it did NOT disappoint me. There were 4 top trainers, two of which are my two favorite, and they took you through an hour and fifty minute workout. I don’t know if I have ever sweat this much in my life. There were four different stations, one for each trainer, and each station had a few sub-stations. Within the stations there were a few different exercises, and sequences that you had to run through. There was a TRX station, and if you are one of my clients, you KNOW how much I love the TRX. I got to spend 20 minutes nonstop doing different exercises on the TRX with Fraser Quelch(one of my favorites). He got me sweating a little, and that was just in the first 20 minutes. Then it was off to do some routines on the battling ropes, some agility drills, power bands, and bosu balls. After the class, I met up with Emily who instantly laughed when she saw me, because I was DRENCHED in sweat.
The last class I will talk about is a functional seminar I took. It was called Motion Drivers-What Turns YOU On? Kinky, I know. This class was showing us how the body uses more muscles that the average person thinks, when doing daily activity, and if you can mimic daily activity movement in your exercise routine, you will be much better off. The presenter brought up a great point by saying functional exercise is the way to go. Athletes use exercises like these. And he brought up the example of a bodybuilder. The way bodybuilders train is SOLELY for vanity. There is no relay to normal activity when you train like a bodybuilder. Have you ever seen a bodybuilder try to play sports? It’s actually pretty comical. Anyway. I had fun in this guys presentation because he kind of reinforced the way I think.
Well, that is a little taste of what i went through this weekend. In total, I took 9 classes/workshops/seminars/workouts, and I enjoyed every one of them. This is something I will go to again, every year. I think there is never an end to learning, and everyone can benefit from better educating themselves. I am going to take some of the new tips I learned, and implement them into my own training. Future clients, BEWARE!
Las Vegas Personal Training- A Big Week In Fitness
Sunday, August 1st, 2010My Las Vegas Personal Training will have to take a break this week, as I will be out of town. Oh Yeah. Happy August to all you fitness freaks out there! You know what? Happy August to all you who aren’t fitness freaks too! I am really excited for this week, as it is a HUGE one for me. In a few days, I will be off to Los Angeles with that one personal trainer, Emily Bussey, and we will be attending a very, very large fitness convention. It’s called the IDEA World Fitness Convention. Basically what happens at the convention is a lot like school. For 10 hours a day, we are in random classes, seminars and workouts. Now, this doesn’t sound like much fun to the average human being, but for me, it’s heaven. I am a self proclaimed fitness nerd. I’ll admit it, and I’m not ashamed of it. At least it’s not like I’m obsessed with Harry Potter, or Twilight, or Jason Derulo or something. I am obsessed with something that actually matters, and isn’t make believe. Anyway, just wanted to let you know some of the things I will be learning at the conference. Here are the titles of some of the classes/seminars I will be attending.
Partner Play: Game On!
Introduction to Kettlebell Training for Fitness Professionals
Four Top Guns, Four Training Zones-Athletic Training That Brings It!
3-D Matrix Performance Series: Advanced Balance and Jump Training
TRX® Corrective Exercise
Fitness Podcasting
Motion Drivers :: What Turns YOU On?
And that isn’t half of my classes. Emily and I will be coming back from this convention with tons of new knowledge and exercises to challenge all of you. Hopefully at the end of this week, I will learn how to record and put on a weekly fitness podcast just talking about the emails I receive with questions regarding working out and fat loss. This is something I have been waiting all year for, so I don’t think it will disappoint. We’ll be back Sunday with some new fitness tips for you all to try!
Tips To Help You Lose Fat
Sunday, July 25th, 2010Happy Sunday people of the summer? Have you been keeping up with working out? Has your fitness level increased over the summer? Have you taken the necessary steps to keep your bodyfat low, while enjoying time in the sun? If you still are a little unsure about going outside in a tank top, or a bikini for that matter, what is it that is holding you back? What have your workouts been like? They’ve been ok? Great. What has your nutrition been like? Not so great? BINGO! Most people, just miss the boat on this one. If you aren’t getting proper nutrition, you won’t get the full benefits of your workout. You also won’t reach your goals in any sort of timely manner. So I am going to give you some tips to lose fat quickly.
1. Eat more fruits and vegetables. If you eat 6-7 servings of fruits and vegetables a day, I can almost guarantee you will see weight or fat loss. Most people I would assume get an average of 3 servings, and I am being generous. If you add more, you will be less likely to eat a bunch of crap junk to fill yourself with empty calories and fat.
2. Write down what you eat. Writing down everything you put in your mouth will make you realize just what your diet looks like. It will tell you whether you are getting enough water, enough proteins, or if you even eat ANY veggies.
3. Eliminate processed foods. Really, when you eliminate processed, packaged, foods, there is really no way around eating healthy. Simple rule, if it comes in a box, don’t eat it. Try this out for a week and see what happens to your body.
There are my tips. Try to incorporate one a week, and in 3 weeks, i bet you’ll be liking the new you.
Fitness in The Airport
Sunday, July 11th, 2010As I am in Chicago’s Midway airport, I see a lot of people who should be my personal training clients. I also saw a guy who is a high level pro bodybuilder. So everyone has to travel right? But what I wanted to say, was if you want some good exercise, just fly standby on a busy day. I have probably walked 10 miles today in this freakin airport. It’s my own fault, but I look at it like this. Every time I don’t make a flight, they move you to the gate of the next flight. As I am writing this, I have had to move gates four times already. And none of them have been consecutively close to another one. This is a lot of walking. Add the fact that I have taken my laptop, TRX, and a couple big bottles of water along with me, and this is a slight workout! Although I REALLY want to start doing pushups and bench jumps off these uncomfortable chairs, I will take this walking thing as my fitness for the day. So next time you get annoyed with the standby stuff, just realize that as long as you are up and moving, you are basically working out!
Our Fitness News On The Horizon
Sunday, July 4th, 2010Good evening my fitness enthusiasts, those trying to lose weight, those trying to gain muscle, those trying to get ripped, and those that are somewhere in between all that. Just thought I would write you guys a quick note, telling you where we are at in the business of Tonycress.com Personal Training. Right now, we are taking on a lot of different, exciting projects, that will benefit not only us, but hopefully a host of other people trying to reach their own exercise goals.
We are still doing our amazing personal training programs and group fitness camps, but in addition to these, we are taking on two big projects. The first one, has been in my thoughts and actually you guys all came up with the content of it in a way. I will be writing a book, based on all your fitness questions i have received over the last few years. I am sure there will be plenty of questions that are left unanswered, but this is a chance to have many of the fitness, diet, and motivation questions people ask me on a day to day basis. This book will be of great benefit to the people who are looking to lose the last few pounds of stubborn fat, the elite athlete, and the person who is just starting out a fitness program. I’m excited about this adventure, and I’ll be looking to finish this up in the next two months.
The other big project we are getting involved in is a dvd project. This is very exciting, as it’s been one of my goals for a few years. I will blatantly say i am not a fan of the fitness infomercial dvd’s you see out right now for the general public, and we intend on changing the game:) The dvd’s right now, as far as I’m concerned, don’t focus on their main market. I can’t say too much about it, but we will be starting the production of this in the coming weeks, and hope to have the DVD program out by October.
This is all very exciting news for us at Tonycress.com I encourage you guys to check out the youtube videos, where you can learn simple tips and tricks to help your fitness go to new levels.
Fitness Goal- 3% Decrease in Bodyfat.
Friday, July 2nd, 2010My fitness goal fort the month of June was to lose three percent bodyfat and go from 6.64% to 3.64%. I had twenty-seven days to do this, since I started on June Third. My diet was a little intense, but I did slip up a few times. Some people I know like to keep junk food in my fridge. I would say my nutrition, I complied with about 90% of the time. The workouts consisted of a lit of interval training, as well as a lot of circuit training with bodyweight and dumbells as resistance. The end result- in 27 days, I lost 12 pounds and 2.2% of my bodyfat. Although I didn’t quite reach my goal, I gel had I tightened up the nutrition aspect of it just a tiny bit, I would be sitting at 3% right now. Just goes to show you, no matter what shape you are in, there is always room for improvement.
