How Many Weeks to Pool Ready Body?- Las Vegas Personal Trainer

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

Do you have your pool ready body? As I write this, it is February 3rd, and in Las Vegas, that means you have about 7 weeks to get ready for pool season. It’s funny, being a personal trainer, you know when pool season is coming up, because you get more business. I almost want to say more than new years. But it does make sense, because no one is getting naked outside in January, unless you are sick and twisted, or you live in Hawaii. before and after photoshop15 How Many Weeks to Pool Ready Body? Las Vegas Personal Trainer The fact of the matter is, we are talking about 7 weeks here! If you look like the picture on the right, we have a lot of work to do. So i’m going to give you a detailed plan of how to get ready for the pool season.

Rule 1: Start RIGHT NOW. I know a ton of people who tell me they want to come check out my gym “sometime” and never get around to it. There is always something that comes up, you get busy with work, or you have your kids. People make excuses up the butt. There will always be an excuse, and before you know it, you are at the beginning of another summer where you don’t have the body you want. It’s really unfortunate, but you have to be proactive.

Rule 2: Start doing something you know you will stick to. Whether it’s TRX classes, or a personal trainer, or just getting your ass back in the gym, do something you know you will keep up for the next 7 weeks. A lot of people come to me, because they know they wouldn’t do anything otherwise. That, and the fact they just spent some money to get results:) This rule is also applies to nutrition. Don’t do some stupid diet plan you will only follow for 10 days, and then eat 4 pizzas in one sitting. Pointless, you’ll have lost weight for a week. Good job.

Rule 3: PLAN. You know that you are going to be going to work every day right? And usually those days are pretty much the same, regardless of what happens during the day, minus a slight change here and there. So it would make sense, to also KNOW what you are going to be eating throughout the day. Take your day off, and prepare meals for the week. If you go to work, without food, and without a plan, lunchtime will roll around, and you’ll be wondering what you should eat. You are more likely to make bad choices if you leave it up to that, than if you have tupperware filled with chicken and asparagus, with a greek yogurt. THIS, also applies to your workouts. Schedule them in each day, just like an appointment, and you are less likely to skip them.

Rule 4: Make a commitment to yourself. You need to allocate time for all of your workouts, preparing food, and sticking to this. So you have to say, for the next 7 weeks, you are going to commit to your program. Take drinking out of the mix. I know for a lot of you in Las Vegas, that’s a cardinal sin. Oh NO! You can’t drink for a whole month and a half! Is the world coming to an end? Try it. 7 weeks. No drinking, and take out fast food totally. All restaurant food. If it’s a good enough restaurant, it’ll be there in 7 weeks. If not, you shouldn’t be eating there. This goes back to rule number three. People do have 30 minutes to prepare meals each week. If you want an example, check out this video . Do some form of workout 4 times a week. Doesn’t have to be cardio, doesn’t have to be weights. Just do something you know you’ll do. Combine these rules, and I promise you’ll look like you should be in a bikini, or shirtless, when that time comes.

Try TRX- Las Vegas Personal Trainer

Monday, January 23rd, 2012

IMG 4620 300x200 Try TRX Las Vegas Personal TrainerIf you haven’t tried TRX Suspension Training, I suggest you do. It’s not your average every day workout, and you’ll learn more in one session, than you likely will going at it with Shaun T, or Tony Horton in any amount of DVD’s. If you don’t know what it is, basically it’s exercising using your bodyweight as resistance through a few strategically placed positions and a couple of straps. That’s the simplest way to put it. Sounds simple enough, but the amount of different exercises you can do is pretty much endless, because you can do variations of exercises, using one side of the body, both sides, one leg, two legs, feet suspended by your toes, feet suspended by your ankles, facing the anchor point, away from the anchor point, side facing, straps shortened or lengthened, deep vector angle, shallow vector angle…. I think you get the point. But then most guys will automatically stop once I say bodyweight. I have actually gained strength and muscle size using the TRX, and I have also gained mobility and flexibility. It’s pretty much the best of all worlds. Women love the fact that you aren’t pushing around heavy weights, that will make you “bulky”, because you gain muscle fast, right? Most women do. Ok. You are the only one. Promise. Back to TRX. It’s just going to make you look and feel great. You should try one of the classes. Get a different take on fitness. Maybe something you haven’t been doing, is the answer to all your fitness goals.

Roadmap to Ripped- Las Vegas Personal Trainer

Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

Roadmap to Ripped? What does that mean exactly? No, you don’t have to go to Las Vegas to understand this, but it might help. Only because I’m here, lending my personal trainer expertise to help you read that roadmap.
OK. So, here’s the situation. Your parents went away on a weeks vacation. Wait. No, that’s wrong. OK. New situation. You want to get ripped. You want to lose fat. And on and on. We all know the feeling. But have you thought about how you are going to do this? Let’s pretend our goal to rippedness, is actually a trip. So. what do we need for our trip? If we are going somewhere we’ve never been before, we need directions. Whether it’s through GPS, or Mapquest, or Rand McNally, someone has to tell us how to get there. Then we have to find our vehicle. Are we going to fly, or take a train? Maybe we’ll drive our own car. Who is coming with us? Do we have travel buddies that would make this trip more enjoyable, or people that could help us find the way? Also, we more than likely will need to fuel up for this trip. Can’t go anywhere without gas. Once we have all that figured out, we are set right? Cross country trip here we go. Not quite. We have to map out points of interest along the way, refueling, and recharging. NOW, let’s be on our way.
Let us translate this into fitness. Minus the Fresh Prince reference, let’s take a look at what we just talked about. We need directions. We can’t go anywhere, unless we know how to get there. If you have no goal, or end point in mind, you’ll just be running circles and using a lot of fuel, for nothing. Make a goal, and figure out how to get there, with specific directions. This could be something like saying you want to lose 10 pounds by March 1st. But if you don’t have any way to do that, more than likely it won’t happen. Maybe you take the advice of someone like me and sign up for a fitness program, and start to learn about nutrition. There are your directions. As far as your vehicle of choice, we aren’t left with many options, as we only have one body, but that’s a good thing, because there is one less thing to think about. Do you have travel buddies? Maybe your spouse, brother, roommate, or co-worker has the same goals as you. You could buddy up, and make this less of a solo mission, and be entertained by your travel companion. Maybe that companion is your trainer. Either way, making the drive yourself is usually less enjoyable. When we are talking about fuel, we are talking about food. Are you going use inferior food to fuel this trip, or are you going to put the premium in, so performance of your vehicle is top notch? We want the cleanest, highest performance food for our bodies. You aren’t going to try and gas up a Lamborghini with the cheap stuff, are you? As far as the points of interest and refueling, if this is a cross country trip, we are going to need to rest at some point, let our body recover, and refuel, and take in the scenery of the journey. Acknowledge the 3 pounds you lost. Notice the new ab you see in the mirror. Enjoy it.
This trip is not always easy, and sometimes, it gets boring. You get tired when it seems like you’ve been driving forever, but you always have to keep that end point in sight. Break up the journey, stop every so often, and you’ll find that this trip isn’t really as long as you thought, and you don’t hate it, but actually enjoy it. The Roadmap to Ripped is usually already around you.

Live With Kelly and TRX- Las Vegas Personal Trainer

Friday, January 6th, 2012

imagejpeg 2 15 300x179 Live With Kelly and TRX Las Vegas Personal TrainerGood job Live with Kelly. You featured a piece of exercise equipment that isn’t just a trend. It’s trendy yes, and fast becoming a buzz word among novel fitness people, but in my opinion, it also works. TRX Suspension Training is one of my favorite workouts known to man, and for it to finally become one of the new it items among the commercial word, I think is only a good thing. I didn’t get to see the actual segment, just heard that it was on there. But, I am hoping that they showed the ridiculous versatility of the very small piece of equipment. Their website used to be called Fitness Anywhere, which was really fitting, because, you could do this workout literally anywhere (I think I did it in my fridge once while I had too much eggnog). But I just wanted to say good job on finally recognizing something that actually is a real, useful, functioning piece of fitness equipment. This isn’t a trend, and should be here to stay. Coming from a personal trainer with 15 years of experience, and a lot of infomercial watching, I can say that. And oh yeah, people in Las Vegas, should probably check out one of my classes. I’ll show you what I mean.

This Will Make You Mad- Las Vegas Personal Trainer

Fat Santa by Hman FarCry This Will Make You Mad Las Vegas Personal Trainer

This will make you mad.  What I am about to say, will make you mad.  I said it again.  Normally, I don’t say things like this, because as a personal trainer in Las Vegas, you try not to offend any potential clients.  But sometimes, things like this need to be said, for the better of everyone.  Consider the following post “tough love” from me.

You are fat.  If you aren’t fat, you don’t have to read this, but you may very well get what I’m talking about.  Now, here is a list of the things that HAVE NOT made you fat:

Your genetics.

Your job.

Your kids.

Your work schedule.

Your Pets.

The FDA.

The economy.

Your husband/boyfriend/wife/girlfriend.

Your kids soccer practice.

Your work deadlines.

Technology.

The holiday season.

People’s birthdays.

Your vacation.

Your pregnancy 2 years ago.

The amount of money you make.

The amount of time you have.

Yo Gabba Gabba.

The cost of a gym membership.

The cost of healthy food.

And on. And On.  And ON….

Now, here is a list of the things that HAVE made you fat:

YOU.

That’s it.  You are strictly to blame for where you are with your weight.  Don’t blame anyone else, or anyTHING else. You are directly responsible for every little piece of cake you have put in your mouth, every beer you have chugged, every cheeseburger you have inhaled, every loaf of bread you have spread butter on, and every workout you have skipped.  I am sure at first, you will take offense to this, because it is basically calling you out.  But if you actually think about it, how exactly did any of the above reasons make you fat?  Did your kids soccer practice make you have to go to the drive thru and order a value meal, or was it up to you to prepare before hand and make sure that wasn’t the end result?  Did your work make you miss your workout because you stayed an extra 3 hours past 5 pm, or did YOU make you miss your workout because you wouldn’t take 15 minutes out of your day to make sure you “got it in”?  For every reason you say you can’t drop the weight, there is 5 solutions.  Sometimes it takes the realization that the only thing that is holding you back from being the “fit” you, that you want to be, is yourself.  Let’s take for example, this holiday season.  I will guarantee you that multiple people will be telling me that they aren’t coming to fitness camp because there is a holiday party they have to go to, or they can’t afford it right now (which is valid), or they like to hibernate in the winter, and they’ll pick it up in the New Year.  I understand that there are holiday parties, but you could go get your workout in on your own.  You don’t have to rely on someone else to work out.  Everyone knows how to do jumping jacks and pushups and lunges.  Do them on your own time.  If you can’t afford it, same deal.  Do what you know, on your own.  Take accountability and be proactive.  And third, you are not a bear.  Bears hibernate.  People do not.  Every time you hibernate and don’t work out in the winter, it puts just a little bit more fat on your body, and makes you just a little bit more unhealthy, and will make it even harder to get to where you want to be ultimately.

I am sorry If I offended anyone, but sometimes as they say, “the truth hurts”.  I hope it only stings for a second, until you realize, that there is truth to this truth, and you can decide to change what you are doing for the better, or you can keep getting fat.  Don’t blame this on circumstances.  Assess your circumstances, and find solutions to the road blocks.  If you are driving cross country and a road is closed, do you cancel your trip?  I would hope not. You find a route that works.  That’s what you need to do with your overall health.  Happy Holidays:)

Use Your Dog To Get In Shape- Las Vegas Personal Trainer

Sunday, November 20th, 2011

Do you have a dog?  Shouldn’t your dog be getting some exercise?  You can use your dog to get in shape.  All it takes is a half hour a day, which is what you are supposed to walk your dog for anyway.  You can even break up this time into three daily walks of ten minutes each.  Use that time, of taking your little loved one out to do his or her business, and use it as exercise.  Walk briskly, or even RUN, while you are out with your pup.  When they are ready to go to the bathroom, they’ll let you know.  Most people will leisurely walk their dog, and let them take their time.  Use that time.  This takes out that one excuse most people have.  They say they don’t have enough time.  If, while you take your dog out, your are walking fast, or running, you can use that as part of your exercise routine.  Sometimes, it’s the simple things people don’t think about, that can benefit them more than developing this intensive, creative exercise program.  So tomorrow when you take your little Tyrone out, make him go FAST.

Halloween- People Work Out For This- Las Vegas Personal Trainer

Saturday, October 29th, 2011

halloween costume party tradeshow las vegas 1 300x224 Halloween People Work Out For This Las Vegas Personal TrainerIt’s Halloween weekend.  People work out for this purpose alone.  Most people who do, only work out for the month of October so they can get in shape to wear their costume that involves little or no clothing, which I am not opposed to.  It’s your body, and sometimes you just want to show it off!  Nothing wrong with that.  I have a question for you.  Well, not you in particular, but… nevermind.. Yeah. You.  The one who is wearing that Poison Ivy costume that just involves two leaves, and a twig place in very strategic places.  Wouldn’t it make sense, if you worked out all year, and ate a healthy diet 90% of the time, so come Halloween, you wouldn’t have to try so hard?  I think it might.  There are amazing costumes here in Las Vegas, and this personal trainer can tell you, he’s seen some amazing ones, so it’s tough to stand out in a crowd.  And that’s what people want to do on Halloween.  Stand out.  So here’s a tip for next Halloween.  Start working out now, so by next year, you and your gang of friends can be WWE wrestlers, or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, or Ladies of the Lingerie Football League.  Your body and ego will thank you.  People do work out for this.  Happy Halloween!

Quick Way To Lose Fat?- Las Vegas Personal Trainer

Sunday, October 9th, 2011

I have come up with a quick way to lose fat.  It’s called liposuction.  I will make millions off of this invention.  I’m going to quit my job in Las Vegas as a personal trainer, and open a “liposuction studio”.  Wait.  What’s that you say?  this liposuction thing has already been invented?  Are you sure?  Ok.  Well, scratch that then.  I’ll just take good old fashioned science as my business.  The goal for my company would be to lose fat in a timely manner, and learn how to keep it off.  Oh, this liposuction thing takes it off immediately?  Oh.  Hmm…  Does it fix how you eat?  NO?  How much does it cost?  HOW MUCH?  Wow.  So, it must be permanent then?  NO?  OK.  So you are telling me, that this “liposuction“, a quick way to lose fat, costs thousands of dollars, isn’t permanent, and doesn’t teach you good nutrition habits?  So, more than likely, you’ll be getting it again? Sounds like that HCG thing everyone is talking about.

How about, we practice just a little patience, and LEARN how to eat, and train, the proper ways to lose fat quickly?  If we change our habits, rather than spend tons of cash on looking good tomorrow for a fleeting minute, we can look good everyday for the rest of our lives.  Find some good nutrition information.  talk to your personal trainer, or a nutrition specialist, for guidance.  As far as your fitness, talk to your certified trainer, or exercise specialist on direction for your workouts.  The money you spend here, will be far less than the money you spend at my liposuction store, and you’ll learn a lot more, and realize, you don’t need to spend thousands of dollars if you build the house yourself.  Learn a strong foundation, and you’ll realize weight loss is simple.  just keep hacking at it, and results will come.  But it’s a methodical game.  No instant gratification.  No shortcuts.  You cheat your way through things, and you’ll never learn how to get out of a bind, this one being gaining body fat.  Question the subject matter when you hear of a quick way to lose fat.

Motivation and Willpower- Personal Trainer Las Vegas

Sunday, October 2nd, 2011

Motivation and Willpower.  Two things integral in succeeding at your goals.  And both, can come from places you didn’t initially think.  Being a personal trainer, in Las Vegas, the city of sin and temptation, I have to deal with both.  Clients finding the motivation, and the willpower to stay on the right track to becoming healthy and achieving all their fitness goals.  What you will find here in Las Vegas, are roadblocks and excuses.  Both in plenty supply.  Every weekend there is a party, or a fight, or a DJ, or a concert that you just HAVE to go to, because, you couldn’t go to the one next week.  Or the week after that.  With all those events comes the drinking, and eating horribly.  Just because you go to whatever high class steak house in whatever casino, doesn’t mean you HAVE to get a 24oz steak, and their gourmet mashed potatoes.  But, people will justify their decisions as such.  I’m going to give you a few tips, that will not only help in Las Vegas, but will also help wherever you live, to get more of these two key components.

Motivation, you should be able to find within.  The simplest way to do this is to visualize you at your goal points.  How does it feel?  What will YOU be feeling, looking like, accomplishing when you get to your goals?  Another good option is to unknowingly recruit external motivators.  Your friends.  Schedule workouts with them,  try a new healthy eating spot, update them on your status, even if they don’t ask:)  Try to get them to be an active part of your fitness journey, but if they aren’t, then there are always virtual fitness buddies, who can hold you accountable.  Most people are motivated, they just need to keep that motivation turned on.  So, surround yourself with it!

Willpower is a whole other quality, that most people don’t understand.  You don’t run out of willpower, although people think you do.  For example.  If you love cake, and you keep going to birthday parties, eventually, you’ll eat some cake.  Two things are wrong with this.  One, you didn’t plan ahead, and two, you keep setting yourself up for failure.  Your willpower doesn’t just come at the point of contact.  Willpower is an ongoing thing.  This means planning for those obstacles.  If you are going to go to 5 birthday parties in 3 weeks, you probably know this.  So, what should you do before each party?  One, you should eat before you go.  Two, you should maybe pack some healthy treat, for when people are eating cake, you eat that.  I know that people love birthday parties, but maybe you just stop by for a few minutes, and not be surrounded by the things that will make you go backwards from your goals.  Don’t hang out, with your temptations just looming right next to you on the table.  This is kind of exaggerated, but you can’t say that an alcoholic has no willpower if you make them sit in a fully stocked bar for hours.  Don’t surround yourself with the things that can break your willpower.  It will be easier to keep it up.

Just a few tips on a couple key components in the game of goals, fitness and otherwise.  Learn how to harness Motivation and Willpower, and you’ll reach those goals much quicker than you think.

Lifting Weights Is For Girls- Las Vegas Personal Trainer

Tuesday, September 27th, 2011

Lifting weights is for girls. Let’s face it. It’s for guys too, of course. But there are people out there, especially women, who think they shouldn’t lift weights, because they don’t want to get too bulky, or they don’t know how to lift, or they are allergic to metals. None of which are reasons to deny the beast. I would say, unless you are extremely blessed, and in the top 1% of the world, if you lift weights correctly, and don’t take steroids, you aren’t going to get bulky muscles. That bulk, that you THINK you’ll gain, is actually still your fat. Lose the remaining fat, and those “muscles” that were formerly “bulky“, are now, beautiful. If you don’t know how to lift weights, there are people like me, personal trainers, and other fitness professionals that would be very eager to teach you the fundamentals for a very low fee that will prove more valuable than limited edition Pokemon cards. And finally, if you are allergic to metals, they make rubber weights, there are sandbags, tires you can flip, water weights, ropes, and all kinds of other tools that have nothing to do with iron.

I’m not going to leave the men out of this either. When you are trying to get ripped up, don’t sit on a treadmill for two hours, go lift weights, and MOVE. Don’t stop. Get it. Get it. Think of it as high intensity interval training. Move from one exercise to the next, keeping that heart rate high. Not only will you not lose muscle, but you’ll tell your body fat to take a hike.

These should be reasons enough for both men and women. So, yeah. Lifting weights IS for girls.
