So, we have you finally workin’ on your fitness. You have decided to make a change. You start eating right, working out, and paying attention to your physical well being. Awesome! Congratulations! I promise you this is a decision you won’t regret. I want to talk to you specifically about the working out part today. I see a lot of things go on, while I am with my personal training clients, or with my fitness campers, or in the gym in general. These things are both good and bad. Yes, you are on the right track, getting in your workout, spending time in the gym or in group exercise classes. But the thing I see in adults, when they take on these things, is that they lose that drive from competition. I will take my fitness camp for an example. Now, the people in fitness camp work hard, there is NO doubt about that. But what I see, when we partner up, or we do team races, is that some people “cheat”, or slack off. Let’s say you are doing partner leg throws. Now, your partner doesn’t want to make you mad, so they only throw your legs at a moderate level. If this were me, I’d beg for a little more effort. Either they are afraid when it’s their turn, you are going to throw their legs with too much force, or they don’t want to hurt you. I think both are cop out excuses. You are there for a reason. To get a benefit out of this workout. By doing this, you are cheating both yourself, and your partner. Aren’t you there to put forth a maximum effort, and to get results from this whole fitness thing? If you just go through the motions, what reward will you get? A garbage one. If you try your hardest every workout, those gains are going to come that much quicker, and you will be even MORE thrilled that you decided to take this journey! The same can be said in the gym. If you push yourself, get a few more reps in with the weights, go another mile on that treadmill, you will REAP the rewards and benefits. Your body is an amazing machine, and you need to realize just what potential it holds. Don’t go for “good enough”. Go for “amazing”!

The Fitness Game- Don’t Cheat
Saturday, May 8th, 2010Las Vegas Personal Training- Your Goals.
Tuesday, April 13th, 2010Las Vegas and the rest of the country, ask yourself this question. Are you where you want to be right now? It’s April, and the months are warming up. Is this where you expected your fitness level to be at, right now? Have you lost that bodyfat that you planned on doing in January? What have your workouts been like? Are you following your nutrition the way you had planned? Ok. That’s about 15 questions, not one. Who’s counting though? Anyway. If you are exactly where you planned to be, good job! It takes a lot of dedication and determination to reach the fitness and exercise goals some people come up with. You are prime examples of what you can do when you put the knowledge and desire to work for yourself. Keep doing what you are doing. For those of you, who still think you have some work to do, you still have time. You can decide, today, that you are going to start changing things. The way you eat. What your workout is like. Little things, like deciding to eat at least two solid vegetables today, is a huge start. Might not seem like much, but it sets the wheels in motion. Deciding to go to the gym today. That is another great start. Why keep waiting, when your results are waiting for you to go get them? Just wanted to give you guys some things to think about. Just spend five minutes, mapping out how you can get to those fitness goals you have, or any goals for that matter. Ask yourself why you haven’t reached them, and how you can change the things you do to get to them. Have a great day folks!
Las Vegas Personal Training- Welcome To The Show
Sunday, April 4th, 2010Las Vegas, watch out. There is a new personal trainer at TonyCress.com, and her name is Emily Bussey. She was a former client of mine, who posessed the drive, intelligence and knowledge to follow fitness as a career. Every time she would come to fitness camp, she would dominate the workout, and I would see her in Las Vegas Athletic Club, working her tail off, trying new exercises. I knew she would be a perfect fit for what we here at TonyCress.com want to accomplish with our clients and our personal training. Emily is a former college athlete, playing volleyball at Adams State. She has battled after finishing her college career, to become, what I think, is close to the ideal female physique. She knows what it takes to get in shape, and I feel that she can be successful in helping others attain that goal as well. I also needed the opinion of the opposite sex for a lot of my programming, and I think Emily is the perfect fit. Right now, she is taking on new clients, to help them reach their health goals, and she teaches our Monday Fitness Camp. If you are interested in working with Emily, feel free to give me a call, or email me, and let me know. 702-489-7587 or tony@tonycress.com . Emily is a great addition to our team, and I know she will be able to help you out! Oh yeah, if you wanna look at a funny challenge between us, you can check it out on youtube here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkWf1tSEO58
Las Vegas Personal Training- Got Any Tips?
Saturday, April 3rd, 2010Hello my personal training fans. Just sitting here in Las Vegas, thinking about a few things. What is it with guys in the gym or fitness center? Why must the majority of them pretend to be the most genius people out there when it comes to women’s workout knowledge. One of my clients inspired me to write about this. So, let’s say you are a guy, in the gym, and you see a girl who is getting her exercise on. I’ll tell you right now, don’t go hit on her. But you wanna talk to her. Don’t. Oh snap. You walk up to her, and you say, “Hey, can i show you how to really do that exercise?” I slap my head in disbelief. Seriously? Did you just do that? Come on man. At least wait until she’s done with her workout. She’s in better shape than you, and she knows more than you do most likely. Anyway. Just had to rant. Have a good day kids:)
Las Vegas Personal Training- Six Pack Fitness
Sunday, March 28th, 2010Las Vegas, and the surrounding areas of the United States, Happy Sunday from your 3rd favorite personal trainer. Just checking in on you guys. While everyone else is out at the pools today here, I am writing a fitness blog, and hosting my parents for a visit because my brother had a baby on Wednesday. Welcome to this world Aries Cress! He’s already got a six pack! Well, maybe not, but he definitely flexes his muscles all the time. Just updating you all on the happenings in the lives of my family. Anyway, we have got to get back on the exercise train. What have you done this week? how have your workouts been? Are you following your nutrition and diet plan? What have you done today to reach your fitness goals? Sometimes we all need this reminder to get ourselves back on track. So, here is your reminder. If you haven’t had a workout this whole week, I’m going to give you one right now. Start small. Get back into the groove. Do 200 jumping jacks, 50 pushups, 50 squat jumps, and 50 mountain climbers. Try to finish this in 10 minutes. It’ll do you wonders, and help you realize you are back in the game. Have a great day.
Las Vegas Personal Training- Pool Ready Bodies pt. 1
Friday, March 12th, 2010Las Vegas has a bunch of meatheads in it. Simply put. Personal training, I don’t run into this often, but when I go to the gym, I definitely do. 75% of guys in the gym are there to do one thing. That thing is building muscle. Peoples workouts are based on what’s the best for building size in their pecs, or what will make their six pack show, or how to get bigger arms. And i am not in the minority. I want to have bigger muscles, and I want to look better at the pool. That’s what it’s all about right? Las Vegas is gearing up for pool season, and guess who’s busy trying to pack muscle on to a few smaller frames? ME. That’s who. And to the people who are personal training with me, rest assured, you’ll be happy with the results you get. The people who aren’t, I do have some advice for you. Although you do want to gain muscle, and look good for the pool, don’t count on your bicep curls to get you there. Incorporate exercises that involve your whole body. What’s the point of spending two hours in the gym, and isolating every muscle you can. Let’s work out calves for an hour. What sense does that make? I’m gonna do 15 different types of bicep curls. Really? Why? Why would you do that? What if you did a pushup with a squat thrust? How many more muscles are involved in just that? This is way more efficient than your bodypart split. And since you are activating more than one muscle at a time, you’ll get multiple the benefit.
Now, this isn’t the only aspect you need to gain muscle. If you are not getting enough energy in to fuel that muscle growth, your muscles won’t grow. EAT. Eat food. Lots of it. If you are working hard, you have to get extra calories. I still know people who only eat once a day. No matter what your goal is, THAT isn’t gonna help you. Obviously you need some protein to fuel muscle growth, but without carbs and fat, that protein will be useless. So get a good balance, work out using multiple muscle groups, and get some good sleep. Those will help you look great for the pool.
Las Vegas Personal Training-Fast Fitness Food
Friday, February 12th, 2010In my personal training experience in Las Vegas, what I commonly run into is people who don’t know what to eat. They especially don’t know what to eat when they are in a hurry. Nutrition is more important than you would ever imagine when you are focusing on accomplishing fitness goals. More often than not, that is what separates people from having a decent body, to people to have the body they want. So I’m going to give you a few quick meals you can have for after your workouts, or when you are just on the go.
1. Almonds. Actually, any nuts for that matter, except chin. Nuts are pretty perfect because they have great fats, and some protein to help build muscle. You don’t have to refrigerate them, and you can carry them around in your pocket.
2. Kefir. I get the smoothies at places like Whole Foods or Trader Joes. Great source of protein, and tastes pretty great. This does have to be refrigerated though.
3. Peanut Butter Jelly Time! Yup. You heard me. This is PERFECT for after a workout. Has carbs, protein, and fat. Great recovery food. But try to eat it only after your fitness:).
4. Cottage Cheese. Some people hate it. I love it. High protein, low calories. Just means muscle.
There ya go. There’s four quick foods to eat when you are on the go. Stay healthy, and join fitness camp. Its fun.
Fitness Camp Fun Starts Tomorrow!
Sunday, January 31st, 2010Hey Las Vegas! You guys ready to start another fun filled fitness camp with your, yeah, your favorite personal trainer? I know I am excited about it. If you told me you are signing up for camp, and you haven’t yet, shame on you. It happens every time i run these fitness camps. 25 people will say, “Tony, I can’t wait to do your next fitness camp!” and those same 25 people are the ones I will see six weeks later, five or ten pounds fatter, and I’ll see them doing their sweet treadmill workout. Then they’ll say, “Oh yeah, I really meant to join up. Just had too much stuff going on, wasn’t working with my schedule, my cat died, I lost my job, I heard it’s hard, and i don’t want to be the least in shape person there.” OH MY GOD! I think the real reason I have a problem with these people, is not because they aren’t doing my fitness camp, but because they are lying to themselves. They don’t want to put in the work, and they just are scared. The treadmill is comfortable to them. They think that’s plenty of exercise. They think if people see them at they gym, they are doing their job. You don’t make progress by doing the same thing over and over again. If that was the case, 90% of the people in gyms would look like greek gods, while the 10% who know what they are doing, would look like slobs. My point here is this. If you don’t try new things, why would your body change? Come to fitness camp. And if you only take one thing away from it, that’ll be something you can try, when that treadmill seems just a bit boring one of those days.
Las Vegas Month Long Workout
Friday, January 29th, 2010Hey Las Vegas! And everyone else. Just wanted to update you on what I am going to be doing for my exercise program for the next month. I am trying to gain strength and size right now. I want to see if I can gain ten pounds of muscle. For this month, I don’t get to use any weight. No dumbells, no machines. The only exercises I can do, I can’t load myself with anything other than myself, or partner resistance. I am falling in love with this strap system called the TRX. No, it’s not a sex swing you pervs, anyway, you can see tons of videos on it on youtube. But just thought I’d update you, and let you know what I’ve been doing. Hope you are all well. I’ll let you know how this goes.
Don’t Have a Las Vegas Gym Membership? Who Cares?
Monday, January 25th, 2010There are tons of gyms in Las Vegas. Some offer personal training. Some have pools. Some have basketball courts. Most offer cardio machines and exercise equipment. Some are just for fighting. The list goes on and on. But what if you don’t have the money for a gym membership? Or you don’t want to be hit on by every dude in the place. Or you haven’t paid your monthly dues in 3 years and you owe Las Vegas Athletic Club $484 and they won’t let you work out there until it’s paid off. Whatever. You don’t need a gym membership to get all jacked up, or just get more muscle tone. The other day, I worked out. Shocker I know. But I took this thing, called a TRX, and did my whole workout on it. It basically is a rope with two handles, but the company makes it look pretty. Anyway, i haven’t had a workout like that in a while. Felt like it taxed my whole body. I was doing all these creative exercises with just my bodyweight, and it was killin me. The actual system costs about 150 bucks, but you’d never actually have to go to the gym ever again with this thing. My point is, you don’t have to have all these crazy machines the gym has to get in shape. Most people use it as an excuse to not work out. My gym doesn’t have this so I don’t go, or whatever. Come on dude. Get with it. If you have a floor, and a door, you can workout. That’s really all you need. I’ve been in a pissy mood lately because so many people come up with so many excuses to not work out, but then, they complain about being out of shape. You can really work out anywhere, any time. You don’t need a gym. So, meet me at the park for fitness camp in a week. You’ll see what I’m talking about:)
